In this final post of the series, I wanted to mention the Project Management Body of Knowledge. The PMBOK, currently in its 7th edition as of 2021, is a resource published by the Project Management Institute (PMI). It compiles processes, best practices, terminologies, and guidelines accepted as standard practice within the project management industry. It is meant to guide project professionals with the fundamental practices needed to achieve organization results and excellence.
While past editions were more focused on processes and specific approaches, this current edition embraces the full spectrum of project approaches. It’s heavily focused on principles and performance domains which represent groups of activities that are carried out for effective project outcomes, regardless of the approach used by the project team (such as waterfall, agile, or hybrid).
The current 7th edition’s performance domains are: stakeholders, team, development approach and life cycle, planning, project work, delivery, measurement, and uncertainty. These performance domains have been discussed throughout the 30 topics in this series.
